I'm joining in......

......the RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) 2016 at SoScrappy. I have wanted to do this for at least 4 years, but never followed thru. I've seen so many beautiful quilts come out of that challenge, so it was time for me to jump in with both feet!!!

I started looking for blocks in Dec and had to whittle the 10 I found, down to 3!!!

My first choice was to make String/Selvedge blocks. This is what I have to work with! This closet is in our office and half of it is filled with my fabric overload!

These bins are STUFFED with strings and selvedges! I wash EVERY piece of fabric and cut off the selvedges before it goes in my sewing room!! I have got to get these bins under control because I refuse to get rid of them!!! For the last 3 years I have been making a Selvedge quilt to donate to my daughter's school (she's a teacher in Hillsboro, OR) for their Outdoor School Program and it has not made a dent in these bins. But I keep trying!

So this week I made 12 blue blocks. And I only took a pic of 4! Oh, well, I'll show them all off next time! These are 8" unfinished and I am using my favorite paper----old phone book pages!! Thanks Bonnie Hunter!!

The next block I found on At the Corner of Scrap and Quilts. I still don't know the name of it. If anyone knows, please enlighten me! I drew it up on EQ7 and I am making 9" blocks. Made 6 of these blue beauties this week. I just love this block. Be sure to check out Chantal's blog. She just put her quilt together and it is amazing!!

Here are my blocks for January.

The last block I have chosen to do this year is from Connie at Freemotion by the River, her Flower Block. I haven't started that one yet, so hopefully will get it done by the end of the month. I plan on making only one a month, but I may change it to 2. My total blocks now are at 19 a month, so what's one more!!! I told you I jumped in on this challenge with both feet!!

I am linking to SoScrappy. Take a few minutes to check out the other blogs and you might get hooked too!

.......sew till next time.......

Welcome to the party! I love your string blocks. I have a thing for skinny strings too. And I think your other block is called Flashing Windmills, a Nancy Cabot block from 1938. Whatever they're called, they're pretty!

So happy you joined us. I wish my scraps, strings and selvages were that well behaved lol. I wish you a great year with us, scrappy peeps.

I recognize a few of your BLUES from my own stash. (It happens less often than you would think!) You've made a great start on "Chantel's Pinwheels". It's one of the blocks on my RSC list. Have FUN with the RSC!!

Thanks for sharing your string blocks. That's what I'm making this year, and it helps to see other blocks as I'm just getting started.

Welcome and great choices for your blocks. It is addicting and fun to play with one fabric for a month.

Good luck whittling down those selvedges. If you are going to save them, then finding a way to use them all up will add to the fun. Love the pinwheel block!

Glad to have you with us. It's a great blog because it's so flexible and we can do whatever we like. You'll enjoy the variety and it seems you are already adding to that with your strings and selvages. Love the pinwheels.

Beautiful blocks! Sounds like you've got a plan for the biggest scrap challenges in your sewing room. I'm looking forward to seeing all your projects develop this year.

So happy to hear you're going to join us this year! I'm a big fan of string quilts, so I look forward to seeing your blocks each month. I don't know the name of Chantal's pinwheel quilt, but yours is going to be stunning!

Good for you, welcome to the RSC, I love the amount of scrap blocks (and quilts now) that I get done with this challenge. Your blocks and strip blocks are lovely.

I am so impressed with your well organized scraps! That is one of my goals to work on this year. I think your RSC blocks look great, too! The string blocks are so pretty with all of those blues together.

Love all your RSC16 blocks! I'm jumping in for the first time this year, too, after admiring everyone else's last year. Seeing your string blocks reminds me that I have a bunch of blue ones already made so I guess I've upped my RSC blocks to 3, also! I'm doing the twinkle stars for Angela's column-along and I found a really cool block in the 100 block mag issue (don't remember the name).

PS: Thanks for checking out my blog and taking the time to comment.

Great blocks! I also plan to make Chantal's blocks - they are gorgeous.

I agree that so many fabulous quilts have been made because of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!

Welcome to RSC ... I used selvages for years until I finally realized they were just demanding too much storage space. Now I save strings and clean cuts but the selvages go into the trash. I, too, wash all my fabric before it goes to the studio, but I leave the selvage on just in case I need to order more at a later date. THAT has saved me from crisis several times.
