Changed Things a Bit

Well, on Monday, I came up with a plan that I hope is set in stone!! I am making 6 different blocks, for 6 different quilts, every month for the RSC 2016 (Rainbow Scrap Challenge). I want to have enough blocks to have 4 quilt tops at the end of the year. I didn't want to make the same blocks for years, that would not be fun for me!! I found out that I am not making enough of some blocks and too many of another!! Go figure!

Anyhoo, I have an updated list AND I made all the extra blocks I needed for January and February, so I am all caught up! Whew! Let me tell you, it was a whirlwind in the studio this week! So without further ado, here are my finished blocks for February.
I made 12 Scrappy Strings.

Here is my Rainbow Twist ( I was planning on making 3 each month, but I only need 20 blocks, so on even months I will make 1 and on odd months I will make 2 (except I need to make 2 next month so I will have the right amount at the end of the year). I know, that was probably more info than you wanted or needed!! Sorry!!

5 of "That Thirties Thing" Block

6 Pinwheels ( I will be making these for 2 years)
10 Centennial blocks
3 Flower Blocks. I took this pic this afternoon, and the appliqué was not finished, but I promise, it is all done now. That was my 'tv watching' project tonight! I love doing hand work at night. After all, I can't stay in the studio ALL the time!
So that makes a grand total of 37 Brown Blocks! I sure hope I can keep up this pace! And I also made 8 blue blocks to have the updated amount needed!!
One more thing.......I finally took pics of my finished Cresent City Charm quilt. Take a look!

And the back!! I put a 1" stripe in the middle of the purple because I needed to hide the faded mark down the fabric fold line. At least it didn't go to waste!
My go to quilting pattern is a stipple. I'm always in a hurry to finish and this goes so fast!!

I have been making a narrow binding using 2" strips, a la Bonnie Hunter, on my last few quilts and I love it! Don't know if I will ever go back to a wider binding.
And a label to finish it all off.

I have enjoyed all the Browns this month and can't wait to see what color is next! I'm ready to move on! Check out all the other Brown blocks that have been made this month at SoScrappy. And if you want to join in the fun, just jump right in and tame those scraps!!

Almost Finished With The Browns!

This week I focused on getting my Cresent City Charm quilt finished and it is done!! But I didn't get around to taking pics yet. I will share that on Tuesday.

I am still swimming in brown scraps! I haven't made a dent in my bin, BUT I did get all my blocks done for the month. Well, almost!
Here are my brown Centennial blocks. I just love these cute little blocks! Maybe I should be making more than 4 a month. I want to have enough by the end of the year to make a top, so I will be doing the math today and come up with a plan.
My flower block is almost done. I needed a TV project last night so I put the block together and worked on the appliqué. I should be finished with it tonight, then I will be done with all the brown blocks.
Please hop on over to the RSC 2016 at Angela's blog and check out all the brown blocks that have been made this week.

Very little Brown Sewing this week!

This week just flew by! My focus was trying to get my Cresent City Charm to the quilting stage, and it is! But before I show it to you, I will show my Brown blocks.
All I managed to get done is the 6 Pinwheel Blocks. I am so glad to have something new on the design wall. Those Cresent City blocks were up there for a l-o-n-g time!!
Here is the quilt top finally getting to the quilting machine!
I have quilted all of the embroidered blocks. I hope to get the rest of the quilt done this weekend. I am doing just a medium stipple. The embroidered blocks are quilted with a light gray King Tut thread and the rest will be with black King Tut. I love that thread and use it for most of my quilting.
Be sure to check out other Brown blocks at SoScrappy. I'm headed there now!
Enjoy your weekend!

Crescent City Charm

HAPPY MARDI GRAS!!

Cresent City Charm was a Block of the Month from The Quilted Owl in New Orleans in 2014. I was able to purchase all of the block patterns before we moved from there. I started working on it last year and just finished the last block last week! I could not wait to get this one to the "top" stage. I plan on quilting it right away. I had to show it off on Mardi Gras Day!!

It was very windy outside, so these aren't the best pics. I will take more after it is quilted.

I started on the backing today. I wanted to use up some of the 2" strips I had.

Here they are all sewn together in different color piles!

Now they are cut into strips 5" longer than the quilt top and are ready to be sewn into rows.

Here is what I have so far! I am going to piece larger pieces to the top and bottom. This section will be in the middle of the backing, hopefully!! Oops, just now noticed that it is upside down! The purple will go at the top!!

Thanks for stopping! I am linking to Freemotion by the River. Stop by Connie's to see other quilty goodness.

New Month, New Color

This months color on the RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) at SoScrappy is BROWN. I have quite a bit of brown and it was fun to open the Selvedge container and rummage thru it and get a few blocks madethis past week.
The first block I made was Rainbow Twist. I am only making one this month. It will take 20 (16") blocks to make a nice size quilt so I will decide how many I want to make as the months come up. So far I have a total of 4.
I really like this block. I am using the same background print thru out the quilt and have them all cut out along with the binding!
Next, I made 3 That Thirties' Thing blocks. It's a paper pieced block. These were made in no time at all!
And today I made 12 Scrappy 8" blocks. I actually cut one of them 1/4" too short, but I think I will still be able to use it. I haven't decided how I will use them in a quilt. I'm toying with the idea of cutting them in half diagonally. That will be a decision made much later!
Here are the first six.
And the next six.
Needless to say, it didn't make a dent in my selvedges, but every little bit used just makes me feel good!! I LOVE using my stash.
i want to show you one more thing while I have you here!! I had planned on getting this quilt put together. I finally got all the blocks done, although one is missing in the pic. These blocks were sold as a block of the month from The Quilted Owl in New Orleans. They let me buy all of the patterns at once when I told them I was moving away in 2014. I started on them last year as my "TV watching" project!! I can't wait to get this quilt put together and have a permanent home on the back of my couch! I love it here in Texas, but I do miss New Orleans!
Those purple bars you see are doggie grooming bars that I use to hold up my quilt when quilting on my HQ Sixteen. They really work. And the round orange thing you see hanging on the left is my earbuds case I made! My design wall isn't in the best spot, but it is in the ONLY empty wall I have in my studio!!
I can't wait to see what everyone has made with their BROWNS this week. So hop on over to SoScrappy with me and let's enjoy the show!
